Brunei Darussalam will be hosting 6th ASEAN Telecommunications & IT Ministers Meeting (6th TELMIN) at the Empire Hotel and Country Club, Jerudong from 18th - 19th September 2006.

In conjunction with the above meeting, the following meetings will also take place:

• 7th ASEAN Telecommunications & IT Senior Officials Meeting (7th TELSOM),
14th - 16th September 2006.
• ASEAN TELSOM Working Group Meetings,
12th - 13th September 2006.

These meetings will be attended by Ministers, senior government officials and representatives from the private sector from the 10 ASEAN countries as well as dialogue partners from China , Japan , Republic of Korea and India . We anticipate participants around 200 delegates during the 6th ASEAN TELMIN alone. In addition, we anticipated there will be extensive media coverage during the event.

The meeting will review the progress and achievements made in implementing ASEAN Telecommunications and Information Technology agendas and programmes since the last TELMIN Meeting held last year in Ha Noi, Vietnam as well as the strengthening and deepening of the ASEAN ICT cooperation with dialogue partners. The issues of creating a conducive, competitive and sustainable environment, developing digital content, ensuring network security and capacity building will be of high priority on this 6 th ASEAN TELMIN agenda. It is anticipated that the meeting will also endorse a number of developmental projects for implementation. These projects will be funded by the newly created ASEAN ICT Fund as well as funds from dialogue partners.

At the same time, there will be sessions between ASEAN Ministers and ASEAN Youth as well as e-ASEAN Business Council (e-ABC) where issues of common interests in promoting the development of ICT in the ASEAN region will be discussed.
