National Park

Ulu Temburong National Park

This is the first ever national park for Brunei Darussalam.  The Forestry Department decided in 1988 to devote a largely undisturbed chunk of the Temburong forests, covering almost 50,000 hectares, as a natural monument of the country's rich heritage.

Thus, programmed under the 6th NDP, the National Park started to take shape, with an initial funding of $5 Million.  The Department created a special unit to handle the implementation of the project. By 1991, the Park has been provided with basic visitor facilities. The Department allowed limited visitations by Government officials, academic and youth groups, scientists and researchers, and private tour operators, thereby gradually stimulating the growth of ecotourism in the National Park.

Among the innovative structures built inside the Park are elevated walkways, canopy walkway, suspension bridges, tree houses, wildlife observation points, and many more.  The Department has also developed camping sites

In the 7th NDP, the Department will complete the developmental phase of the Park. New, creative ideas, such as putting up a low-impact railway transport system will be materialised. Official launching and opening will then be conducted.
