The development of the infrastructure so as to meet the increasing demand for the
services.
The Brunei International Airport will be upgraded to meet the growing number
of passenger cargo and aircraft movements. Expanding and upgrading the Brunei International
Airport will include a new terminal building and a second runway.
The Muara Port needs additional berthing and deepening of the channel to accommodate
larger vessels. Feasibility study will include the expansion of the Muara Port with
a view to developing Muara Town as an exclusive port area and the possibility of
using Brunei Bay as a container terminal. As an immediate action the channel and
Muara Port will be deepened to about 12.5 meters deep.
The land transportation system needs to be improved to provide a more effective
system for the movement of people and goods around the country and transborder. The
development of the Pan Borneo Highway will be pursued. A feasibility study on a Light
Rail Transport system will be commissioned.
The telecommunication network needs to increase its capacity to meet the growing
demand and increase in the range of services offered. Expansion of the telecommunication
network to increase the penetration rate of up to 45 per 100 and to provide Narrowband
and Broadband Integrated Services Digital Network (N ISDN and B ISDN) and introduce
the associated services such as fast file transfer and multimedia services.
The domestic and international postal services need to extend the coverage of
its services into the community and business clusters as well as new and expanding
areas. Six new district post offices will be constructed.
