Safety and Environmental Care
Safety and environmental care will be a major consideration in the plane of actions.
There are projects and programmes for safety in the land transport, maritime and
air transportation. The departments under the Ministry will act according to the
good practices, the international safety codes, the international conventions and
good common sense to ensure safety for life, property and the sustain ability of
the environment. There are specific programmes and actions to be taken such as:
- The safety and environmental care are major considerations in the plan to safeguard
life, property and the sustain ability of the environment. The compliance to international
standards, conventions and common sense will be the guiding principle in the plan
and the actions to be taken.
- The Oil Spill Preparedness and Response programme in which the Marine Department
will be equipped to carry out "first aid" work on oil spills.
- Resources will continue to be made available for the "Search and Rescue"
National Programme.
- The Airport emergency response programme for safety and security will be regularly
appraised.
- The Department of Civil Aviation will maintain the fire and rescue coverage to
the highest level (Category 9) of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)
safety classification at the Brunei International Airport.
- The National Road Safety Council will continue to identify more effective ways
of increasing the level of safety and a greater sense of safety on the road as well
as among and with road users.
- Road worthiness, sea worthiness and air worthiness of vehicles, vessels and aircrafts
will continue to be regulated and enforced for the safety of the general public.
- Workshops, shipyards and boat yards, aircraft maintenance hangers and technical
capacity and capabilities will continue to be registered, inspected and certified.
