BRUNEI DARUSSALAM AND REPUBLIC OF CHINA ENHANCED
COOPERATION IN THE TRANSPORT SECTOR

Seri Setia Awg Haji Abu Bakar bin Apong, Minister of Communications
received a courtesy call today from His Excellency Mr Gao Hongfeng, Vice
Minister For Transport Of The People’s Republic Of China. His
Excellency arrived today for a three (3) day working visit with the
objective of
enhancing cooperation in the transport sector especially in the
development of both airport and ports infrastructure.
Also present during the courtesy call was Yang
Mulia Dato Paduka Haji Md Yusoff bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Deputy Minister
of Communications, Yang Mulia Awang Haji Alaihuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya
Di Gadong Haji Mohd Taha, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of
Communications, Her Excellency, Madam Tong Xiaolin, Ambassador of the
People’s Republic of China to Brunei Darussalam and Yang Mulia Abdul
Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof,
Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications.
The courtesy call was followed by bilateral
discussions, which was held at the Ministry of Communications. Leading
the bilateral discussion on behalf of Brunei Darussalam was Yang Mulia
Awang Haji Alaihuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Di Gadong Haji Mohd Taha,
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications. During the
bilateral session, His Excellency was briefed on the development of the
Pulau Muara Besar Project by a representative from the Brunei Economic
Development Board and on the Brunei Darussalam’s Airport Expansion
Project by the Director of the Department of Civil Aviation.
The two sides also exchanged views on the present
and future cooperation between the two countries in the air services
agreement as well as in marine and ports matters. Brunei Darussalam maintains a warm, long standing and friendly relation
with the Republic of China based on historical and traditional links.
Bilateral relations between the two countries continue to be enhanced
through such exchanges of visits as well as through bilateral
cooperation particularly in the fields of transportation.
As part of the programme for
the 3 day visit, the Chinese delegation will make a visit to Muara Port
and Pulau Muara Besar as well as a site visit to the Brunei
International Airport on Thursday, 13 November 2008. His Excellency will
leave Brunei Darussalam for China on Thursday, 14 November 2008.
