BRUNEI DARUSSALAM TO HOST
THE 1st BIMP-EAGA TRANSPORT MINISTERS MEETING

Bandar Seri Begawan: Brunei Darussalam will host the First BIMP-EAGA Transport Ministers Meeting due to be held from the 05th to 06th June, 2006 at the Empire Hotel and Country Club. Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Communications will chair this Meeting.

During the 1st BIMP-EAGA Transport Ministers Meeting, the BIMP-EAGA Transport Ministers including the BIMP-EAGA Business Council Chairman will discuss and respond to the development of transport linkages within BIMP-EAGA. This will provide a vital platform for BIMP-EAGA Ministers to come up with affirmative actions towards fulfilling the wishes of BIMP-EAGA Leaders in achieving the intra-developmental goals and targets of BIMP-EAGA. The recent 2nd BIMP-EAGA Summit held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in December last year had adopted the BIMP-EAGA Roadmap to Development (2006-2010). The Roadmap will guide BIMP-EAGA countries in implementing doable, practical and sustainable strategies, programs and projects that will achieve the ultimate goals of BIMP-EAGA. However, the Meeting will also discuss the necessary support mechanism in order to facilitate a more conducive business environment in the sub-region. BIMP-EAGA Transport Ministers will closely discuss their respective cross-cutting issues and concerns by undertaking appropriate policy improvements of transport linkages and infrastructure, thus addressing the operational and technical transport obstacles faced by their private sectors in the sub-region.

An Informal Meeting has also been allocated on the following day, to allow the BIMP-EAGA Transport Ministers for a more free wheeling discussion, exchange of views and fresh approaches to address, among others emerging matters and special concerns that may impact on the existing transport cooperation priorities. With this approach, it would pave for greater impetus and new directions to BIMP-EAGA cooperation in transport sector.
