Official Launching of The Asia America Gateway (AAG) Submarine Cable for Brunei Segment and Signing Ceremony of Transfer of Rights Between the Government of His Majesty and BIG Sdn Bhd 14 April 2010 – The Asia America Gateway (AAG) Submarine Cable for Brunei Darussalam’s segment was officially launched today signifying that the new submarine cable network is ready to carry commercial traffic from Brunei Darussalam. The guest of honour for the ceremony was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah Ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office. Other honoured guests that attended the ceremony were several government ministers, foreign diplomats and senior officers from the Government and private sectors.

Tuesday, 28 Rabiulakhir 1430 / 13 April 2010The Minister of Communications, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong received a courtesy call from the Minister of Industrial Development of Sabah, His Excellency Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah. The courtesy call took place this afternoon in the Ministry of Communications’ building.
His Excellency Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah was accompanied by senior officials from Sabah.
In the meeting, apart from further strengthening the established ties, the minister of communications and the visiting minister also discussed issues of mutual interest between both sides.
Also in attendance were the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications, Haji Awang Alaihuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya DiGadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Haji Awang Mohd Taha; the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Awang Haji Mahmud bin Haji Mohd Daud, and other senior officials from the Ministry of Communications.

The 15th ASEAN Transport Ministers (15th ATM) Meeting has concluded on a positive and encouraging note in Ha Noi, Vietnam. The Meeting was chaired by His Excellency Ho Nghia Dzung, Minister of Transport, Vietnam while the Honourable Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Communications, Brunei Darussalam served as the Vice-Chairperson.
In the aviation sector, the ASEAN Ministers concluded and signed the Protocol to Implement the 6th Package of Air Transport Services Commitments under ASEAN Framework Agreement on Services (AFAS) and its Annex on 11 December 2009 which further deepen and broaden Member States’ commitments in liberalising air transport ancillary services in the region. Lawatan Kerja dan Sessi Muzakarah Yand Berhormat Menteri Perhubungan Dengan Penduduk Kampong Sungai Teraban Isnin, 7 Zulkaedah 1430 H bersamaan 26 Oktober 2009 Satu lawatan kerja dan sessi muzakarah telah diadakan hari ini oleh Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Menteri Perhubungan, Negara Brunei Darussalam ke Kampong Sungai Teraban, Kuala Belait. Yang Berhormat Pehin disertai oleh Yang Mulia Haji Awang Alaihuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya DiGadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Haji Awang Mohd Taha, Setiausaha Tetap Kementerian Perhubungan dan Yang Mulia Awang Haji Mahmud bin Haji Mohd Daud, Timbalan Setiausaha Tetap Kementerian Perhubungan serta Ketua-ketua Jabatan dan Bahagian di Kementerian Perhubungan. Hadir sama di acara ini ialah Ahli-Ahli Yang Berhormat (Daerah Belait), Pemangku Pegawai Daerah Belait, Ketua Kampong Sungai Teraban serta Ahli-ahli Majlis Perundingan Kampong Sungai Teraban. Tujuan utama lawatan kerja tersebut adalah bagi memahami secara lebih komprehensif mengenai isu-isu yang berhubung dengan pemberian kemudahan dan perkhidmatan oleh Kementerian Perhubungan dan Jabatan-Jabatan serta Agensi di bawahnya khususnya kepada penduduk Kampong Sungai Teraban. Ianya juga diharap akan dapat memberikan peluang kepada pihak Kementerian dalam mendapatkan input dan pendapat mengenai tahap rangkaian kemudahan dan perkhidmatan yang disediakan melalui sesi muzakarah bersama penduduk setempat.

Download Press Release The 1ST ASEM Transport Ministers’ Meeting was held on 19 – 20 October 2009 in Vilnius, Lithuania where it provides a platform for addressing major challenges in Euro-Asia links in terms of transport connections along the world's most important trade routes, logistics business, and sustainable transport development. Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) is the main multilateral channel for communication and dialogue between Asia and Europe since 1996. Following the Hanoi Declaration on the Closer ASEM Economic Partnership at the fifth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) held in Hanoi, 2004, ASEM partners committed themselves to fostering a closer ASEM economic partnership including an enhanced cooperation in the field of transport. This dialogue is to bring solid outcomes in facilitating trade between the regions as well as contribute to global economic dialogue. The meeting was attended by Ministers and Vice-Ministers from European, ASIAN as well as ASEAN countries. It was officially opened on 19 October 2009 by Ms. Dalia Grybauskaite, President of the Republic of Lithuania. Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Hj Abu Bakar Hj Apong, Minister of Communications led the Brunei Darussalam delegation.

The 2nd Annual Asia-Pacific e-Gov Forum 2009 organized by the Commonwealth Telecommuncations Organisation (CTO) in collaboration with The Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Communications officiated by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, The Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Brunei Darussalam.
It was followed by the opening remarks by the Honourable Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Communications and Chairman of Brunei Information Technology (BIT) Council, Brunei Darussalam, welcoming remarks by the Director of Programmes & Business Development, Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisations, Dr Bashir Patel and address by Dato Seri Paduka Eussoff Agaki Haji Ismail, Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Chairman of e-Government Leadership Forum, Brunei Darussalam.
A ministerial panel was convened chaired by the Honourable Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Communications, Chairman of Brunei Infor-Communication Technology (BIT) Council, Brunei Darussalam and moderated by Mr Lim Hup Seng, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Singapore.

Brunei Darussalam is hosting The 2nd Annual Asia-Pacific e-Gov Forum 2009 organized by the Commonwealth Telecommuncations Organisation (CTO) in collaboration with The Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Communications. The forum will be held for three days starting from 17th August to 19th August 2009 at the Empire Hotel and Country Club, Jerudong. This is the first time Brunei plays host to the event.
The forum is officiated by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, The Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Brunei Darussalam.
The aims of the forum among others, is to gather experts in the e-Governance, e-Governance stakeholders, policy makers and ICT executives to share experiences and knowledge in the areas of e-Governance.

The Honorable Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Communications, Brunei Darussalam and His Excellency Dato Paduka Dr. Olexander Horin, Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine met today in a presentation session on Ukraine satellite technology. The presentation was delivered by Mr. Borys Nepomysaschyy, Chairman of Ukrainian Satellite Group. The session, which was held at the Rizqun International Hotel, was also attended by Haji Awang Alaihuddin bin POKDGSLDSU Hj Mohd Taha, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Communications, as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Communication and other relevant Ministries/Departments. Representatives from academic institutions, private sectors and non-government organizations were also present.
