In an effort to foster quality time in the family institution, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs organised the first National Family Day celebration yesterday in the Tutong District.
The Minister of Communications, Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, the guest of honour at the event, led families in the district to celebrate the momentous event.
The celebration was held at the Community Hall in the heart of Tutong Town with the minister leading an aerobic session followed by a three-kilometre walkathon.

The National Family Day 2012 celebration with the theme, 'My Family My Aspiration', hoped to strengthen family institution as well as to answer the call of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's aspiration in instilling the importance of family institution for the development of the nation.
A total of 11 zones nationwide including 12 venues were used to celebrate the National Family Day 2012 to enable a larger participation by the local residents. Cabinet Ministers and deputy ministers were invited to lead the celebrations.
Apart from the residents, the National Family Day also received an overwhelming response from the private sector with several restaurants and hotels currently offering attractive promotions.
Several hotels are also giving the opportunity for less fortunate families a chance to check-in to one of their hotel rooms for free.
Among the objectives of the celebration were to strengthen and improve the well-being of families by bringing them closer together through collaborative programmes, which effec-tively will create a closer society and instil greater awareness amongst the general public on the importance of family institution in the development of the community.
